Starfire Vintage's story

Hi! My name is Ally, and I am the founder and CEO of Starfire Vintage. Here is the story of how my company came along.

Ever since I was little, I have been putting together eye-catching, unique, and sometimes strange, outfits. I spent nearly every weekend at the mall, perusing retail stores for several hours and coming out with at least 10 shopping bags. However, in 2020, when the pandemic hit, many of the malls closed and I wasn't able to shop as easily. Instead, I ended up spending a lot of time online.

One day while scrolling through Instagram, I saw an infographic from @zerowastecutie describing how fast fashion is modern slavery (see the post here). After reading through the post, I started doing more research on fast fashion and learned just how bad it is for our earth and people. Thus, I decided I needed to find a way to express myself through fashion without participating in fast fashion.

Quickly, I learned that thrifting is one of the most sustainable practices for buying clothes. Thus, I started shopping at many thrift stores around Houston. After a few weeks, I began posting my outfits on my personal Instagram  and mentioning that I got certain pieces from thrift stores. Soon enough, people started messaging me asking how I could find such great pieces and style them so well. After talking with a lot of people, I thought that maybe I had a talent for styling and thrifting that could help to decrease fast fashion consumption. And thus, Starfire Vintage was born.
